Pentagon Awards $500M Contract to Neros Technologies for FPV Attack Drones
California-based drone company Neros Technologies has been awarded a contract worth up to $500 million by the U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon) to supply first-person-view (FPV) attack drones to the U.S. Army — marking one of the largest Pentagon investments to date in low-cost, expendable drone systems.
From Garage Startup to 2,000 Drones Per Day
Neros Technologies was co-founded in 2023 by former FPV racing pilots Soren Monroe-Anderson and Olaf Hichwa. Drawing on their competitive drone flying experience, the two rapidly scaled the company from a garage-level operation into a major defense supplier.
According to The Economist, Neros had ramped production to approximately 2,000 drones per day by December 2025. Roughly two-thirds of its output has been delivered to Ukraine, with the remainder supplied to U.S. military customers including the U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Army, and U.S. Special Operations Command.
Prior Involvement in Ukraine Aid Programs
Ahead of this landmark Pentagon contract, Neros had already secured a deal through the International Drone Coalition to supply 6,000 FPV attack drones to Ukraine — demonstrating its capacity for high-volume production and delivery in high-intensity conflict environments.
AeroVironment Receives Counter-UAS Contract on the Same Day
In a parallel announcement, the Pentagon also awarded AeroVironment a contract worth up to $500 million for its Titan RF counter-UAS system, with work expected to continue through June 2029.
Together, the two contracts total up to $1 billion, signaling that the U.S. military is simultaneously accelerating both offensive drone capabilities and counter-drone deployments — and pushing forward the large-scale integration of small, expendable drones on the modern battlefield.
