Skyfly Welcomes FAA MOSAIC Rule Taking Effect, to Showcase Axe VCA at EAA AirVenture
Anglo-American aerospace company Skyfly has welcomed the FAA's MOSAIC (Modernization of Special Airworthiness Certificates) rule, set to take effect during EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The company will exhibit its two-seat electric vertical takeoff and landing Axe VCA aircraft at EAA AirVenture 2026 (July 20–26), where more than 700,000 aviation enthusiasts are expected to attend.

Highlights
- Skyfly will exhibit the Axe VCA two-seat eVTOL aircraft at EAA AirVenture 2026 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, running July 20–26, with over 700,000 attendees expected.
- The FAA's MOSAIC rule takes effect concurrently with AirVenture 2026, replacing rigid design rules with performance-based requirements that directly enable Axe's electric propulsion redundancy and VTOL capabilities.
- Skyfly CEO Michael Thompson stated the Axe was built around simplicity, efficiency, and redundancy — principles he says are now formally recognized under the MOSAIC regulatory framework.
- The Electric Aircraft Symposium (EAS 2026), hosted by VFS FCC, will run July 18–19 at the University of Wisconsin, featuring 12 sessions and more than 50 speakers covering eVTOL, hybrid, and hydrogen propulsion topics.
- eVTOL Insights readers can receive a 15% discount on EAS 2026 in-person tickets and video packages using discount code 15%EAS2026 at checkout.
Skyfly Welcomes FAA MOSAIC Rule Taking Effect, to Showcase Axe VCA at EAA AirVenture
The FAA's Modernization of Special Airworthiness Certificates (MOSAIC) rule is set to come into force next month during EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Anglo-American aerospace company Skyfly has welcomed the development and announced it will bring its Axe aircraft to the show.
Axe VCA: A Safety-First Vertical Takeoff and Landing Aircraft
The Axe is a two-seat aircraft designed with safety as its core principle, intended for personal travel, recreational flying, and flight training. It combines vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) capability with efficient winged cruise flight, allowing pilots to take off and land at a wide variety of locations while retaining the familiar feel, efficiency, and stability of fixed-wing flight — with the aircraft able to glide safely even at engine idle.
The Axe features a naturally stall-resistant tandem-wing configuration that balances safety with aerodynamic efficiency. The forward wing is designed to reach its maximum lift limit before the main wing, causing the aircraft to naturally lower its nose before a full stall can develop, thereby avoiding dangerous situations. Unlike conventional tail-down-force designs, both wings on the Axe generate positive lift, improving range and payload capacity.
How MOSAIC Enables the Axe
The FAA's newly enacted MOSAIC rule replaces many previously rigid design restrictions with performance-based requirements, opening new pathways for aircraft innovation. The Axe incorporates several features made possible under the MOSAIC framework:
- Electric propulsion system: allowing redundancy in motors, propellers, and batteries
- Multiple flight profile options: supporting conventional runway takeoff or vertical takeoff and landing
- Advanced flight control system: simplifying pilot workload with flight envelope protection
Skyfly CEO Michael Thompson said: "The timing couldn't be better. The Axe was designed around a simple idea: personal vertical flight can be safe and accessible if you build in simplicity, efficiency, and redundancy from the start. MOSAIC establishes a regulatory framework that recognizes those principles."
EAA AirVenture 2026: The World's Largest Aviation Gathering
EAA AirVenture 2026 will be held July 20–26 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and is expected to draw more than 700,000 aviation enthusiasts, including pilots, aircraft owners, industry leaders, and media. Skyfly will publicly display the Axe aircraft at this premier global aviation event, giving attendees the opportunity to see the innovative aircraft in person.
Founded in 2019, Skyfly is an aerospace company with operations in both the UK and the United States. Over the past several years, the company has designed, built, and flight-tested the Axe Vertical Capability Aircraft (VCA) in accordance with its safety-first philosophy.
Electric Aircraft Symposium Runs Alongside AirVenture
Two days before EAA AirVenture opens, the Electric Aircraft Symposium (EAS) — hosted by the Vertical Flight Society Federal City Chapter (VFS FCC) — will take place at the University of Wisconsin on July 18–19.
EAS 2026 will feature 12 in-depth sessions with more than 50 speakers and moderators, covering a broad range of electric aircraft categories including light sport aircraft, trainers, general and regional aviation aircraft, helicopters, and VTOL types. The symposium will also address battery, hybrid, and hydrogen-electric propulsion technologies, as well as infrastructure and regulatory topics.
