Thales Unveils RapidStriker Mobile Counter-Drone System at Eurosatory 2026
French defence giant Thales officially launched the RapidStriker mobile air defence system at Eurosatory 2026 in Paris on 15 June 2026. Designed to protect manoeuvre forces from drone and helicopter threats, the vehicle-mounted system integrates 68/70 mm rockets, small-calibre cannons, and an electronic warfare jammer. It can engage targets within approximately 40 seconds of detection, with an effective range of 1 to 5 kilometres. Full system integration testing is expected by end-2026, with production slated for 2027.

Thales Unveils RapidStriker Mobile Counter-Drone System at Eurosatory 2026
French defence group Thales formally launched the RapidStriker mobile air defence system on 15 June 2026 at the Eurosatory 2026 defence exhibition in Paris. The system is purpose-built to protect manoeuvre combat units against drone and helicopter threats while retaining a ground fire-support capability.
Julien Assoun, Thales Vice President for Vehicle and Tactical Systems, stated that RapidStriker was designed specifically for the current battlefield environment, where drones and loitering munitions have become persistent threats accounting for a significant share of combat losses.
Low-Cost Rockets as the Core Design Principle
Thales has placed low-cost rocket munitions at the heart of RapidStriker's design philosophy, directly addressing the growing cost imbalance between drones and the interceptors used to defeat them.
The vehicle-mounted system integrates 360-degree detection, an automated fire-control system, and a suite of effectors: guided and unguided 68 mm and 70 mm rockets, a small-calibre cannon, and remote-controlled munitions. In addition to kinetic options, the system incorporates Thales's Eclipse electronic warfare jammer, giving operators the option to jam a drone rather than engage it kinetically.
Thales states that RapidStriker can detect, identify, track, and neutralise a threat within seconds — with a detect-to-engage timeline of approximately 40 seconds — and an effective engagement range of 1 to 5 kilometres. The weapon management system rapidly selects the optimal response, significantly reducing operator workload. According to the company, two vehicles operating together can simultaneously engage up to four threat targets.
RapidStriker is designed to be mounted on any high-mobility tactical vehicle, with Thales recommending a platform in the 10–15 tonne class. The configuration displayed at Eurosatory featured the system mounted on a Bushmaster Utility vehicle. Thales also noted that RapidStriker can be integrated into its ForceShield short-range air defence system as a close-in defensive layer within the broader SkyDefender air defence architecture.
Thales's Broader Presence at Eurosatory 2026
RapidStriker formed a key part of Thales's wider slate of announcements at the show. The company simultaneously introduced the LGR275 Proxy, a 70 mm laser-guided rocket fitted with a proximity fuze and a warhead optimised for air target engagement. The munition is designed to counter Class 1 and Class 2 drones in both surface-to-air and air-to-air roles, detonating near small targets without requiring a direct hit. Thales's laser-guided rockets have already been adopted as a low-cost counter-drone effector on combat aircraft operated by France and Belgium, among others.
Thales also announced a partnership with Renault to industrialise production of the Toutatis loitering munition within France. Production could begin as early as 2027, with a planned first-year monthly output capacity of 1,000 units — a move that also marks a significant step in Renault's expansion into the defence sector.
Thales confirmed that all individual components of RapidStriker have already completed qualification testing. Full integrated system testing is expected to be completed by end-2026, with the system entering full production in 2027.
