Eurosatory 2026: Rheinmetall Showcases Latest Skyranger 30 Counter-UAS and Air Defence System
At Eurosatory 2026 in Paris (June 15–19), Rheinmetall unveiled the latest version of its Skyranger 30 mobile air defence system, mounted on the Lynx KF41 infantry fighting vehicle. Armed with a 30mm×173 KCE revolver cannon with a 3,000-metre effective range and programmable airburst ammunition, the system can also integrate SHORAD missiles. Orders have been secured from Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Romania, and Denmark, with deliveries also planned for Ukraine.

Eurosatory 2026: Rheinmetall Showcases Latest Skyranger 30 Counter-UAS and Air Defence System
German defence industry leader Rheinmetall formally presented the latest version of its Skyranger 30 mobile air defence system at Eurosatory 2026, held in Paris from 15 to 19 June 2026. The system is based on the Lynx KF41 infantry fighting vehicle platform.
Core System Technology
The centrepiece of the Skyranger 30 is its 30mm×173 KCE revolver cannon, with an effective range of 3,000 metres. In its press release, Rheinmetall stated: "By using programmable airburst ammunition (Ahead), the system achieves an extremely high hit probability against micro-drones."
For threats at greater distances, the turret features a modular design that allows flexible integration of Short-Range Air Defence (SHORAD) missiles. The system incorporates an onboard search radar and electro-optical sensors to support seamless 360-degree omnidirectional surveillance and target tracking. It is capable of fully autonomous operation or integration into a networked joint-force combat architecture.
Multi-Nation Procurement Orders
The Skyranger 30 has attracted orders from several European armed forces:
- Germany: The German Bundeswehr has contracted Rheinmetall to deliver 19 vehicles of the Skyranger 30 air defence system based on the Boxer platform, with the first prototype already delivered on schedule.
- Austria: The Austrian Bundesheer signed a major contract in the mid-three-digit million euro range to procure 36 Skyranger 30 systems, which will be integrated onto the domestically produced GDELS Pandur EVO wheeled armoured vehicle platform.
- Netherlands: In December 2025, the Dutch Armed Forces placed a major order worth hundreds of millions of euros for the Skyranger system, intended for mobile and forward-deployment operations.
- Romania: As part of a landmark national defence procurement programme valued at €5.7 billion, Romania ordered the Skyranger 35 variant based on the latest Lynx family of combat vehicles, aimed at comprehensively modernising its ground-based air defence capabilities.
- Denmark: Denmark has also announced plans to procure the Skyranger 30 solution.
- Ukraine: Additionally, the system is planned for delivery to the Ukrainian Armed Forces to rapidly bolster their short-term air defence capacity.
About the Exhibition
