Kongsberg Awarded Lot 2 Production Contract for F-35-Compatible Joint Strike Missile
The U.S. Air Force Life Cycle Management Center has announced the award of a Joint Strike Missile (JSM) Lot 2 production contract to Norwegian defense group Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace.
The firm-fixed-price contract covers the following scope of work:
- Production-standard missile bodies
- Launch canisters
- Test hardware
- Associated support equipment
The JSM is currently the only long-range anti-ship and precision strike missile capable of fitting within the F-35's internal weapons bay. Developed by Kongsberg on the basis of the Naval Strike Missile (NSM), it features a low radar cross-section and terrain-following flight capability, enabling long-range precision strike missions without compromising the F-35's stealth performance.
The award of the Lot 2 contract signals that the JSM program is entering a larger-scale production phase, which is expected to further strengthen the air strike capabilities of nations operating the F-35 platform. Japan, Australia, and Norway have already procured or plan to procure the JSM system.
Kongsberg's defence division has been actively expanding its international order book in recent years. The continued advancement of the JSM contract underscores the company's strengthening competitive position in the precision weapons market serving NATO and allied air forces.
