L3Harris Awarded $106M U.S. Army Contract to Supply VAMPIRE Counter-UAS Intercept System
L3Harris Technologies announced in a press release that it has been selected by the U.S. Army to deliver its VAMPIRE™ counter-unmanned systems (c-UxS) solution in support of urgent defensive requirements against adversarial drones. The Army procurement contract is valued at up to $106 million and forms part of the United States' multi-layered counter-drone defense architecture.
VAMPIRE: A Self-Contained Counter-UAS Weapon Solution
According to L3Harris, the VAMPIRE system is a self-contained weapon solution capable of conducting advanced reconnaissance and precision strike missions against drones and remotely piloted aircraft.
The company stated: "Military forces have employed this technology extensively in support of European combat operations, accumulating more than 350,000 hours of operational use in the field since 2023."
From the Ukrainian Battlefield to High-Rate Production
L3Harris originally developed and self-funded the VAMPIRE system at the outset of the war in Ukraine as a low-cost solution to neutralize Russian drone threats.
In 2026, L3Harris significantly expanded VAMPIRE production, standing up a high-rate manufacturing line in Huntsville, Alabama. The company noted that the new production line was established in direct response to urgent demand from the United States and its allies to counter persistent drone threats.
Addressing the Growing Drone Threat
As drone threats on the modern battlefield continue to intensify, the United States is actively building a multi-layered counter-UAS defense framework. With its combat-proven performance and rapid production scale-up, the VAMPIRE system has emerged as a key element of the U.S. Army's response to this challenge.
