Zipline and Wonder Partner to Roll Out On-Demand Drone Delivery Across Texas by 2027
Drone delivery operator Zipline and food-tech platform Wonder have jointly announced a partnership aimed at bringing on-demand drone delivery to all of Texas by the end of 2027, according to Flying Magazine. The service will cover a wide range of items, from hot meals and cold drinks to prescription medications.
Dallas-Fort Worth to Launch First
The two companies said the service will officially launch in January 2025 in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area — Texas's largest urban region — using Wonder's existing restaurant locations as fulfillment hubs. Customers can expect "minute-level" doorstep delivery. The partnership will then expand progressively to other cities and regions across Texas, with a target of achieving full statewide coverage by the end of 2027.
A Strategic Alliance
Zipline has long been a leader in drone logistics, having carried out medical supply and commercial goods deliveries across Africa and the United States, accumulating extensive BVLOS (beyond visual line of sight) operational experience. Wonder positions itself as a food-tech platform offering "top-tier restaurant quality at delivery speed." By combining Zipline's drone delivery infrastructure with Wonder's food supply chain, the collaboration is being regarded as a significant milestone in the commercialization of drone delivery within the United States.
A New Benchmark for Commercial Drone Delivery
If the rollout proceeds as planned, the partnership will represent one of the largest state-level on-demand drone delivery networks in the United States. Analysts note that Texas's vast geography and relatively favorable regulatory environment make it an ideal testing ground for scaling drone delivery operations.
With consumer demand for instant delivery continuing to grow — and drones offering real potential to reduce traffic congestion and carbon emissions — expectations for the service are high. As Zipline and Wonder move into Texas together, competition in the U.S. drone delivery market is expected to intensify further.
