Ukraine Launches Largest Drone Attack on Moscow in Recent Years; Russia Claims 555 Intercepted

Ukraine carried out one of its largest drone offensives against the Russian capital Moscow overnight, in what observers are describing as a significant escalation in long-range strike capability. According to a statement from Russia's Ministry of Defence, air defence systems intercepted 555 Ukrainian drones across the country, with 194 of them reportedly targeting the Moscow region.

Kapotnya Oil Refinery Struck

Among the targets drawing the most attention was the Kapotnya oil refinery, located in the southeastern outskirts of Moscow. Videos circulating widely on social media showed explosions and thick plumes of black smoke rising near the facility.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin publicly confirmed that drones had struck refinery infrastructure. Reuters, the Associated Press (AP), and The Guardian all reported that a fire had broken out at the site.

Strike Scale Marks a New High

The attack is considered one of Ukraine's largest drone operations targeting the Moscow region in recent years, underscoring Ukraine's sustained advances in long-range strike capability. Casualty figures and the full extent of damage are still being assessed.
