Anduril Secures $363M CBP Contract to Deliver Over 200 Extended Range Sentry Towers
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has awarded Anduril a $363 million contract for more than 200 Extended Range Sentry Towers (XRST) to expand autonomous situational awareness along the southwest border. The 80-foot expeditionary towers are equipped with high-performance sensors capable of autonomously detecting, classifying, and tracking targets at ranges exceeding five miles.

Highlights
- CBP awarded Anduril a $363 million contract for more than 200 Extended Range Sentry Towers (XRST) to expand autonomous surveillance along the U.S. southwest border.
- The 80-foot XRST tower can autonomously detect, classify, and track targets at ranges exceeding 5 miles using high-performance sensors.
- XRST passed CBP acceptance testing in November 2024, prompting Anduril to scale up its software engineering team for long-range autonomous capability development.
- The contract extends a seven-year Anduril–CBP partnership covering the delivery and sustainment of hundreds of autonomous systems.
- XRST and standard-range sentry towers together form a layered surveillance network for continuous coverage across open and complex border terrain.
Anduril Wins $363M Contract to Supply 200+ Extended Range Sentry Towers for U.S. Border
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has contracted defense technology company Anduril to deliver more than 200 Extended Range Sentry Towers (XRST), expanding autonomous situational awareness capabilities across a broader stretch of the southwest border.
According to an Anduril press release, the contract is valued at $363 million and represents a continuation of a partnership spanning more than seven years, encompassing the delivery and sustainment of hundreds of autonomous systems.
XRST Specifications and Capabilities
"We have continuously iterated and improved the Sentry family of systems in lockstep with CBP to address the evolving challenges and mission requirements at the border," Anduril stated. "XRST is our latest-generation capability, able to detect activity at greater ranges to meet varied operational requirements."
The 80-foot (approximately 24-meter) expeditionary tower is equipped with high-performance sensors that can autonomously detect, classify, and track targets of interest at ranges exceeding 5 miles (approximately 8 kilometers).
The XRST works alongside standard-range sentry towers to form a layered surveillance network, providing persistent, comprehensive coverage across open terrain and complex border environments.
Accelerated Deployment Following Acceptance Testing
Anduril noted that following the XRST's successful CBP acceptance testing in November 2024, the company expanded its software engineering team dedicated to optimizing long-range autonomous capabilities in order to meet the practical needs of Border Patrol agents.
The contract further cements Anduril's position in the U.S. border security autonomy space and reflects continued U.S. government investment in AI-driven border surveillance technology.
