Strategic Horizons is a peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal published by Air University Press. The journal is dedicated to advancing scholarly debate, stimulating innovative thinking, and providing actionable insights on global security, deterrence, and the strategic employment of air, space, and cyber power.

As the global conflict landscape continues to evolve, Strategic Horizons serves as a key platform for military practitioners, defense analysts, academic researchers, and policymakers to examine emerging threats and conceptualize future operating environments.

Topics and Research Areas

The journal welcomes original research, critical essays, and analytical commentary. For upcoming issues, submissions addressing the following core themes are especially encouraged:

• Integrated Deterrence and Great-Power Competition: Strategic stability, gray-zone conflict, and counter-coercion strategies.
• Multi-Domain Operations (MDO): Integrating air, space, cyber, land, and maritime capabilities to achieve strategic objectives.
• Emerging Technologies and Future Warfare: The strategic implications of artificial intelligence (AI), autonomous systems, hypersonic weapons, and quantum computing on military doctrine.
• Space Domain Superiority: Distributed space architectures, orbital logistics, the politics of planetary defense, and the security of critical space infrastructure.
• Agile Combat Employment (ACE) and Logistics: Sustaining combat power in contested, degraded, and operationally limited environments.
• Joint and Coalition Interoperability: Strengthening alliances, security cooperation, and the co-evolution of common doctrine.

Submission Categories and Formatting Requirements

• Word Count: Manuscripts should typically be between 5,000 and 8,000 words, including footnotes.
• Style Guide: Submissions must follow the Chicago Manual of Style (Notes and Bibliography system).
• Formatting: Double-spaced, 12pt Times New Roman font, 1-inch margins. Submit as a Microsoft Word document (.doc or .docx).
• Blind Review: To facilitate double-blind peer review, manuscripts must not contain any identifying information or author names in the body of the text. A separate cover page listing the author's name, institutional affiliation, and a 150-word short biography must be included.
• Abstract: All submissions must include a 150–200 word abstract and 4–6 keywords.
• Security Review: Active-duty military personnel and U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) civilian authors must ensure their manuscripts have cleared the appropriate Public Affairs (PA) and security review channels prior to final publication.
