Attending the graduation ceremony at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) San Diego is an incredibly exciting milestone. To ensure you have the most complete and up-to-date information, here is everything you need to know about Family Day and the graduation ceremony.

MCRD San Diego Family Day

Family Day begins the day before graduation, kicking off early in the morning. An optional breakfast is available from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., followed by the highly anticipated Motivational Run at 8:30 a.m. — don't worry, family members are not required to participate!

During Family Day, you will have the opportunity to learn about what your recruit experienced during those 12 weeks of training — including plenty of push-ups and drill instructor yelling — through base tours and command briefings.

During free time, you will be able to spend quality time with your new Marine. We highly recommend visiting the MCRD San Diego Museum to explore exhibits and gain a deeper appreciation for Marine Corps history and traditions.

Tip: All facilities on base operate on a cashless payment system. Be sure to bring a debit or credit card for any purchases or transactions on base.

Family Day Schedule

Tip: Plan to arrive at the entrance no later than 7:30 a.m. to secure a good viewing spot for the Motivational Run — this will be your first chance to see your transformed new Marine!

Prior to the official start of Family Day, families are invited to attend a Family Meet & Greet dinner on Wednesday, with check-in beginning at 3:00 p.m. The dinner is held at The Bayview Restaurant on base and is a great opportunity to meet drill instructors and other families.

This event requires advance registration, spots fill up quickly, and all family members and friends are welcome. Register as early as possible.
