The Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) has formally announced its endorsement of the Magnets Value Chain Support Act of 2026, a bipartisan piece of legislation introduced in the U.S. Congress with the goal of rebuilding a domestic rare earth magnet supply chain.

Rare Earth Magnets Are Essential to Uncrewed Systems

In its endorsement statement, AUVSI underscored that rare earth magnets are indispensable components in drones, uncrewed vehicles, and uncrewed systems of all types — without them, these systems simply cannot operate. The United States currently relies heavily on overseas sources, including China, for rare earth materials, and the resulting supply chain vulnerability has become a significant concern for both industry development and national security.

The Magnets Value Chain Support Act of 2026 was introduced by members of both major U.S. political parties, reflecting a growing bipartisan consensus around the need to rebuild critical mineral and magnet supply chains. The bill seeks to deploy policy tools and funding support to help the United States reconstruct a complete domestic supply chain — spanning rare earth mining and refining through to finished magnet manufacturing.
