Israeli Startup Esh-Tech Unveils DroneLight Laser Air Defense System Capable of Neutralizing Over 30 Drones Per Minute
Israeli startup Esh-Tech has introduced DroneLight, a high-rate directed-energy weapon designed to counter drone swarm attacks. The system uses rapid laser pulses to neutralize a single drone in 1–2 seconds, achieving a sustained engagement rate of over 30 drones per minute. With an effective range of 1 kilometer and a power consumption of only around 4 kilowatts, DroneLight integrates radar, acoustic, and electro-optical tracking for continuous target acquisition.

Israeli Startup Esh-Tech Unveils DroneLight Laser Air Defense System Capable of Neutralizing Over 30 Drones Per Minute
Israeli startup Esh-Tech has unveiled a laser-based air defense system called DroneLight, classified as a "High-Rate Directed-Energy Weapon" and specifically engineered for drone swarm engagement scenarios.
Rapid-Fire Engagement Against Multiple Targets
The DroneLight system delivers rapid sequential laser pulses to engage multiple airborne targets in quick succession. Upon confirmed target acquisition, the system automatically sustains laser pulses against the same drone until it is fully neutralized, then immediately slews to the next target.
According to Esh-Tech, a single drone can be destroyed in as little as 1 to 2 seconds, and the system is reported to neutralize more than 30 drones per minute, demonstrating high effectiveness against swarm threats.
1-Kilometer Effective Range for Close-In Defense
DroneLight operates at an effective range of 1 kilometer (approximately 0.6 miles), positioning it for close-in air defense and short-range perimeter protection missions. The system is designed to integrate with radar, acoustic sensors, and electro-optical tracking systems to enable continuous target acquisition and engagement data relay, forming a comprehensive defensive sensor network.
Low Power Consumption Reduces Logistics Burden
Esh-Tech states that DroneLight operates at approximately 4 kilowatts of power — significantly lower than most conventional high-energy laser systems. This reduced power requirement lowers the deployment threshold and logistical footprint, making the system well-suited for mobile deployment or forward operating positions.
