ILA Berlin Air Show: Rohde & Schwarz Unveils THORIS Mobile Counter-UAS System with Laser Intercept Capability
Rohde & Schwarz has officially launched THORIS (Tactical High-Energy Opponent Response & Interception System) at ILA Berlin Air Show. The integrated counter-UAS solution combines multi-layer sensor fusion with TRUMPF laser technology, capable of locking onto hostile drones within milliseconds and neutralizing them with precision laser pulses. The system supports both mobile and fixed deployment configurations.

Highlights
- Rohde & Schwarz unveiled THORIS at ILA Berlin Air Show, a modular counter-UAS system integrating RF, radar, and EO/IR sensor fusion under a single C2 environment.
- The THORIS LCS laser subsystem, developed with TRUMPF laser technology, achieves drone lock-on within milliseconds and neutralizes targets using high-power laser pulses without kinetic impact.
- THORIS supports both mobile ground vehicle-mounted and fixed deployment configurations, designed for convoy protection, frontline forces, and critical infrastructure defense.
- The system maintains human oversight and is designed to comply with rules of engagement and legal frameworks during counter-drone operations.
- THORIS LCS is currently exhibited at the Rohde & Schwarz booth, Hall 3, Stand C20, at ILA Berlin.
Rohde & Schwarz Debuts THORIS Counter-UAS System, Laser Intercept Capability Takes Center Stage
Rohde & Schwarz has formally unveiled its Tactical High-Energy Opponent Response & Interception System (THORIS) at the ILA Berlin International Aerospace Exhibition. Designed to defend against hostile unmanned aerial systems, THORIS is a counter-UAS (C-UAS) solution engineered for rapid, precision engagement.
Multi-Layer Sensor Fusion Detection Architecture
According to the company's press release, "THORIS is built on a multi-layered, multi-sensor suite that fuses RF detection to track remotely piloted drones, combined with radar and electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) sensors to confirm, track, and identify targets even when RF signals are weak or absent entirely."
All detection, tracking, and countermeasure effectors operate within a unified command-and-control (C2) environment, providing high-resolution situational awareness while maintaining human oversight and ensuring compliance with rules of engagement and applicable legal frameworks. Rohde & Schwarz's jamming solutions can effectively disrupt remotely piloted hostile drones within operationally and legally permissible boundaries.
THORIS LCS: Laser Combat System
The THORIS LCS (Laser Combat System) is a dedicated laser-based counter-drone solution that utilizes a laser source developed by the engineering team at TRUMPF. The system delivers controlled, high-power laser pulses to directly disable a drone's control electronics or propulsion systems without generating kinetic impact.
"At ILA, the THORIS LCS future concept demonstration showcases its configuration mounted on a mobile ground vehicle, capable of detecting a range of simulated drone targets, achieving lock-on within milliseconds, and applying precision laser pulses to render each drone combat-ineffective," the company stated.
Modular Architecture for Diverse Deployment Scenarios
The system's modular architecture allows seamless integration into both mobile and fixed deployment scenarios, providing scalable protection for convoys on the move, frontline forces, and critical infrastructure. The design maintains effector and platform agnosticism. Its modularity and scalability position THORIS as a future-proof investment capable of closing existing counter-UAS capability gaps.
THORIS LCS is currently on display at the Rohde & Schwarz booth at ILA Berlin (Hall 3, Stand C20).
