Jeppesen ForeFlight Launches AI-Powered ClearNOTAMs App to Streamline Flight Planning
Jeppesen ForeFlight has introduced ClearNOTAMs, an AI-powered feature that translates raw NOTAM abbreviations and uppercase codes into clear, plain-English summaries ranked by flight relevance. After more than a year of development, the tool will be available for a three-month free trial following EAA AirVenture Oshkosh (July 20–26), with continued access tied to select ForeFlight subscription tiers.

Jeppesen ForeFlight Launches AI-Powered ClearNOTAMs to Simplify Flight Planning
For every pilot, the regulatory requirement to "gather all available information" before a flight is a demanding task — and deciphering Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs), scattered across multiple sources and written in dense abbreviations and uppercase code, is one of its most challenging aspects. Jeppesen ForeFlight is addressing this pain point with ClearNOTAMs, an AI-driven feature that translates raw NOTAMs into structured, plain-language summaries ranked by relevance to a given flight, helping pilots absorb critical information more efficiently.
Plain-Language Translation With Original Data Always Accessible
According to ForeFlight Product Director Cole Crawford, ClearNOTAMs provides an English-language translation for each NOTAM along with its practical operational implications, so pilots understand what to expect and prepare for — without altering the underlying meaning of the source data or replacing the original text entirely.
"ClearNOTAMs helps pilots spend less time decoding information and more time understanding it," Crawford said in a press release. "By transforming complex NOTAM language into clear, concise summaries, we're making one of the most important parts of flight planning more accessible and actionable."
Pilots can view the translated summary and switch to the original raw-code version with a single tap, allowing them to verify translation accuracy at any time and maintain full confidence in the information.
Over a Year in Development, With Built-In Automated Cross-Checking
Crawford noted that ClearNOTAMs took more than a year to develop, with a significant portion of that effort devoted to ensuring the AI-powered interpretation engine correctly parses and summarizes the wide variety of NOTAM terminology in use. The system incorporates extensive automated cross-validation mechanisms designed to maximize the quality and accuracy of every translation.
Customizable Filtering and Sorting Tools
Delivered through the ForeFlight platform, ClearNOTAMs includes customizable filters that allow pilots to sort NOTAMs by category — such as airport, airspace, or runway — or by issuing authority, such as local versus regional sources. Users can also sort by most recently updated or by effective time, pin specific NOTAMs to the top of the list with a single tap, or collapse and archive them with a double-tap for a more streamlined workflow.
Three-Month Free Trial, Followed by Tiered Subscription Access
Following EAA AirVenture Oshkosh (July 20–26), ForeFlight individual subscribers will gain access to a three-month free trial of ClearNOTAMs.
After the trial period, the AI translation feature will be available exclusively to users on the following plans:
- Individual users: ForeFlight Premium plan
- Flight departments: Business Performance plan
- Military and government customers: MFB Performance and MFB One plans
UI enhancements — including filtering, sorting, pinning, and collapsing — will be available across all ForeFlight subscription tiers, regardless of plan level.
