Terra Drone and WinnyLab's Terra A2 Fixed-Wing Interceptor Drone Successfully Shoots Down Shahed Loitering Munitions in Combat

Japan's Terra Drone Corporation has announced that the Terra A2 — a fixed-wing interceptor drone jointly developed by its subsidiary Terra Inspectioneering and Ukrainian company WinnyLab — has successfully intercepted Shahed-type long-range loitering munitions under real combat conditions.

A Combat-Proven Milestone

In an official statement, Terra Drone said: "The confirmed multiple successful intercepts achieved by Terra A2 under real combat conditions marks an important milestone, clearly demonstrating the practical viability of fixed-wing interceptor drones as a wide-area air defense solution."

Key Technical Specifications

Powered by advanced aerodynamic design and full-airframe optimization, the Terra A2 delivers the following performance characteristics:

• Top speed: 312 km/h
• Wide-area coverage: 75 km
• Flight endurance: Over 40 minutes

The Terra A2 is also designed to integrate with radar systems, enabling it to function as a fixed-wing interception platform capable of performing wide-area surveillance, target detection, tracking, and interception in a unified operational workflow.

Filling the Gap in Existing Air Defense Layers

Unlike existing air defense systems primarily designed for close-range interception, the Terra A2 is capable of forward interception — engaging threats before they reach defended areas — thereby providing an outer wide-area air defense layer that complements traditional defensive systems.
