Velo3D Opens 289,000 Sq Ft California Campus to Triple Metal 3D Printing Capacity for Defense Demand
Metal additive manufacturing firm Velo3D has inaugurated a 289,000-square-foot production campus in Livermore, California, capable of housing over 100 metal 3D printing systems. The expansion is designed to triple production capacity to meet surging aerospace and defense demand. Combined with its Fremont R&D headquarters, Velo3D's two California facilities will total 125 machines, positioning the company as one of North America's largest advanced metal additive manufacturing hubs.

Highlights
Velo3D Opens 289,000 Sq Ft California Campus to Triple Metal 3D Printing Capacity for Defense Demand
Metal additive manufacturing leader Velo3D has announced a major capacity expansion to meet growing demand from the aerospace and defense sectors. The company's new facility in Livermore, California spans 289,000 square feet and is set to become its primary production manufacturing center, with full operations expected later this year.
Scale and Strategic Role of the New Campus
The Livermore Production Campus is designed to accommodate more than 40 large-scale additive manufacturing systems at launch, with infrastructure in place to scale to over 100 systems in the coming years as customer demand grows.
Meanwhile, Velo3D's headquarters in Fremont, California will continue to serve as the core hub for research and development, applications engineering, process development, customer collaboration, prototyping, and certification activities. The two facilities form a complementary manufacturing ecosystem.
Reflecting Customer Transition from Prototyping to Full Production
Velo3D CEO Arun Jeldi commented: "This expansion reflects the growing demand we're seeing from customers who want to move beyond prototyping and certification into full-rate production. Our customers aren't just looking for technology — they're looking for a trusted partner to help them navigate application qualification, scale production, strengthen their supply chain, and accelerate innovation. Fremont will continue to be our center for engineering, process development, and certification, while Livermore becomes the cornerstone of our production strategy. Together, these facilities create a powerful manufacturing ecosystem that helps customers move from concept to production faster."
Integrated Platform to Support One of North America's Largest Advanced Metal AM Environments
Velo3D noted that the expansion further reinforces its integrated additive manufacturing model, which combines industry-leading technology, its Rapid Production Solutions (RPS) offering, engineering expertise, and a growing distributed manufacturing network. This model allows customers to access capacity, certification support, and manufacturing expertise without significant upfront capital investment.
Chief Revenue Officer Michelle Sidwell added: "We believe additive manufacturing should be accessible, scalable, and production-ready. Customers increasingly want to adopt additive manufacturing in a flexible way, without taking on heavy upfront investment or manufacturing risk. Through our technology, Rapid Production Solutions, engineering expertise, and distributed manufacturing network, we help customers move from qualification confidence into production, while improving supply chain resilience and accelerating time to market."
Strategic Positioning to Support Domestic Manufacturing Expansion
The Livermore campus is expected to play a critical role in meeting rising demand for domestic manufacturing capacity across the aerospace, defense, and energy sectors. Combined with the Fremont headquarters, Velo3D is establishing one of the largest advanced metal additive manufacturing environments in North America. With a combined total of 125 machines across both campuses, the company is positioned to support future domestic manufacturing expansion through a single integrated platform.
