EUROCAE WG-105 Advances UAS Airspace Integration Standards; DAA MOPs Public Consultation Imminent
EUROCAE's WG-105 working group has completed its latest meeting round, reporting significant progress across several work programmes. EASA's Detect and Avoid (DAA) standards are set to enter public consultation for IFR operations in Class A–G airspace, two new standards (ED-339 and ED-341) have been published, and the UTM sub-group SG-3 has appointed new co-chairs from EASA and Collins Aerospace.

Highlights
- EASA's Detect and Avoid (DAA) MOPs for IFR operations in Class A–G airspace are set to enter public consultation imminently, covering both general DAA and DAA radar standards.
- EUROCAE WG-105 published two new standards in 2026: ED-339 (NID Data Exchange ICD for USSPs) and ED-341 (SORA SAIL III/IV compliance guidance).
- Revisions have been launched for ED-279 (Generic Functional Hazard Assessment for UAS/RPAS) and ED-318 (Geographical Zones and U-Space Data Exchange), the latter now chaired by Wing's Brendan Hillis.
- UTM sub-group SG-3 appointed two new co-chairs: Stéphane Vaubourg from EASA and Javier Camacho Font from Collins Aerospace.
- The next WG-105 plenary meeting is scheduled for 24–25 November 2025 at the EUROCAE offices in Saint-Denis, near Paris.
EUROCAE WG-105 Advances UAS Airspace Integration Standards
According to a LinkedIn post by Bertrand Riveill, Technical Programme Manager at the European Organisation for Civil Aviation Equipment (EUROCAE), Working Group 105 (WG-105) — responsible for developing the standards needed to safely integrate Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) into all classes of airspace — has concluded its latest plenary meeting and made notable progress across several key work programmes.
DAA Standards Heading to Public Consultation
The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Detect and Avoid (DAA) work programme is advancing, with public consultation on two Minimum Operational Performance Standards (MOPs) expected to open shortly:
- DAA MOPs for Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) operations in Class A–G airspace
- DAA Radar MOPs for IFR operations in Class A–G airspace
Revisions Launched for Existing Standards
A revision of ED-279 — Generic Functional Hazard Assessment for UAS and RPAS, led by Michael Allouche, has been initiated. In addition, ED-318 — Technical Specification for Geographical Zones and U-Space Data Provision and Exchange will also undergo revision under new chairperson Brendan Hillis of Wing.
Two New Standards Published in 2026
WG-105 has published two new standards this year:
- ED-339: Network Identification Data Exchange Interface Control Document (NID Data Exchange ICD), defining the indirect data exchange interface between U-Space Service Providers (USSPs) and between USSPs and authorised users.
- ED-341: Guidance material for demonstrating compliance with non-design-related SORA operational safety objectives for SAIL III and SAIL IV operations.
New Co-Chairs Appointed for UTM Sub-Group
The UTM sub-working group SG-3 has welcomed two new co-chairs: Stéphane Vaubourg from EASA and Javier Camacho Font from Collins Aerospace.
WG-105 Sub-Working Group Structure
WG-105 is structured around five sub-working groups:
| Sub-Group | Area of Responsibility | Chair(s) |
|---|---|---|
| SG-1 | Detect and Avoid | Johan Pellebergs (Saab) |
| SG-2 | Command, Control & Communications Links, Spectrum, and Cybersecurity | Boris Resnick (Flyvercity) |
| SG-3 | UAS Traffic Management (UTM) | Stéphane Vaubourg (EASA), Javier Camacho Font (Collins Aerospace) |
| SG-4 | Design and Airworthiness | Michael Allouche |
| SG-6 | Specific Operations Risk Assessment (SORA) | Antidio Viguria Jiménez (Fundación Andaluza para el Desarrollo Aeroespacial) |
Next Plenary Meeting
The next WG-105 plenary meeting is scheduled for 24–25 November at the EUROCAE offices in Saint-Denis, near Paris.
